Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor
Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor
I am a licensed clinical professional counselor, and I have been providing a variety of counseling services to children, teenagers, adults, and families for over 25 years. I have expertise in treating depression, anxiety, ADHD, autism, disruptive/defiant behaviors, parenting concerns, developmental problems, grief/bereavement/loss, life transition concerns, chronic illness, family problems, problems at school or work, child abuse, trauma, and a variety of other concerns.
I began my current practice in 2007 in order to provide a more private and comfortable place for my clients and to be able to more fully meet their needs. I primarily specialize in working with children, teenagers, young adults, parents, and families. I utilize a variety of techniques and strategies in my therapy sessions with clients, and my primary form of treatment is cognitive-behavioral therapy. I like to help people identify their feelings, learn how to better manage these feelings, and help people identify their beliefs about themselves and the world around them. Once people can identify these feelings and beliefs, they can begin the process of developing more healthy ways of viewing themselves, others, and the world around them and in turn lead more fully-functional, joy-filled, and peaceful lives. I also enjoy helping families develop better communication patterns and helping parents develop and implement more effective parenting strategies.
In addition to being a therapist, I am also a mom to 2 children, a boy (now a young adult) and a teenage girl. My family also helps to keep me very busy. In my younger adult years I was a pastor's wife, often hosting college students in our home. I now enjoy keeping up with my kids' activities and interests as well as advocating for my own kids' mental health concerns and mental health and disability issues in our local community. I believe that every person is worthy of love, kindness and acceptance. In my rare spare moments, I enjoy almost any outdoor activity that is compatible with my chronic illnesses and disabilities. Although, I also at times enjoy some quiet time, curled up at home with a blanket reading a good book or watching a favorite TV show.
Please check out the blog I began in December of 2020 where I talk about my journey with chronic illnesses and trauma as well as mental health and parenting.

I fully understand from personal experience that being a parent is a challenging job and can seem very draining at times. My goal is to help families create an environment where they can enjoy each other and to help parents have more positive and fun interactions with their children.
